- The Lamb’s Wife
- The “bride, the Lamb’s wife” (9) is identical with the city (10).
- We saw the wedding (supper) of the Lamb (19:6-9).
- The ideal church has the beauty and splendor of a city: It is of pure gold as pure glass.
- The City is constantly coming down out of heaven (2), for it is a work of God’s sovereign grace.
- In this Holy City is the throne of God and of the Lamb (22:3,4).
- God’s majesty and sovereignty (throne) is revealed in the love relationship of God with His people.
- In the city God’s sovereignty manifests itself as a sovereignty of love.
- The Lord God Almighty through the Lamb is its temple (22).
- There will be no need for the inhabitants to go some place to fellowship with God.
- The radiance of God’s gracious relationship with His people in all its fulness fills the entire city.
- The Holy City has a luminary, even the glory of God in the Lamb (11,23; 22:5).
- The light-bearer is the glory of the One sitting upon the Throne (cf. 4:3).
- The spotless Lamb Who sacrificed Himself as the highest display of God’s love is the Light (John 1:5; 8:12).
- Hence the Holy City needs no natural (sunlight) nor artificial (lamps) light (Isa. 60:1,3,5,19,20).
- The inhabitants of this Holy City are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life (22:27b).
- Called the “Lamb’s” because this unites the elect to Him; it is when they were given to Him.
- Their life is their knowing the Lamb Who sacrificed Himself for them.
