- The fact.
- Peace is a safety and tranquility where perfect harmony exists.
- God is the God of peace (Rom. 15:33; 16:20; Phil. 4:9; I Thess. 5:23; Heb. 13:20).
- First, that means that for man to understand peace we have to look at and within God.
- Second, God alone gives peace. Only He is the source of it, giving it to whom He will (12a).
- For man to have any peace it is necessary that:
- Objectively, God has peace with him.
- Subjectively, be conscious of what the holy and glorious God has done to establish and maintain this relationship of peace.
- Our experience of peace also includes our having peace with God, which comes only by trusting Him (4; cf. Psalm 112:7,8).
- Sometimes we focus on our disagreement with Him about what is best for our lives.
- Our mind (thinking) must be stayed (lean on and against for support) on Jehovah and His everlasting strength.
- God’s peace with us keeps our minds and hearts from worrying and judging Him because we trust Him (Phil. 4:7).
- The context is a powerful description of why we can trust Jehovah (Isa. 25).
- This song speaks to the invincibility of the church – of the people of God (1,2).
- The source of the strength of this city and its inhabitants is spiritual, not physical.
- The wall which really protects is “salvation,” i.e., deliverance given by God from sin.
- The result of having salvation for walls is the wonderful experience of “peace.”
- The Lord has peace with you! Have peace with Him by trusting on Jehovah Jehovah.
